What happens without a will in Alberta
If a person dies without a valid will, Alberta legislation determines who inherits and in what shares. That distribution may not reflect what the person would have chosen, particularly in blended families or where there is an adult interdependent partner.
Without a will, there is also no named personal representative, which can delay administration of the estate.
